Made from renewable ingredients, containing 80% Pre-Consumer recycled content, K-13 provides a green alternative to other insulation products. K-13 has a thermal resistance rating of R-3.75 per inch and can significantly increase ambient sound quality due to its superior acoustical performance as measured per ASTM C 423. When required K-13 can be applied at up to 10” thick with a mechanical support to achieve a R-37.5 rating as part of the K-13 High-R System.

K-13 Performance Overview

Thermal Performance

K-13 is a sprayed-in-place insulator, the application process uses forced air to propel the cellulose insulation onto the backing, filling all voids, seams and penetrations creating a completely monolithic layer of cellulose which helps to reduce air infiltration. K-13 has a thermal resistance rating of R-3.75 per inch as measured by ASTM C 518 and can be applied up to 5" thick without the aid of a mechanical support system. For applications that require higher R-Values the K-13 High-R-System is mechanically supported and allows applications up to 10" thick, providing R-37.5. K-13's proprietary glue mixture gives strong product stability compared to prefabricated alternatives and does lose thermal efficiency over time from compression or air gaps.

Acoustical Performance

Due to its cellulose makeup, K-13 the product absorbs sound waves much better than rigid alternatives. This mitigates interior noise pollution by reducing sound wave reverberation and creates a more enjoyable end user experience. The sound deadening qualities of K-13 have been measured using ASTM C 423 which assigns a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) illustrating a products ability to control excess noise. The superior sound reducing performance of K-13 make it ideal for high noise venues such as Theaters, Office Buildings, Cafeterias, Arenas and many more.

K-13 Over Fireproofing

K-13 has been approved to be installed over Spray Fireproofing and is listed in the UL BXUV guidelines as acceptable to include in some fire rated assemblies without reducing the fire rating. K-13 can be installed over deck and beams for an open ceiling floor plan in areas that also require fire protection. K-13 can also be installed where fireproofed steel member penetrate the building envelope, this application reduces the thermal transmission of heat or cold through the conductive steel members.
