What are Thermal and Acoustic Coatings
With building design making a turn towards sustainability and rising expectations for comfort of indoor spaces the use of spray applied thermal and acoustic finishes has become ever more prevalent. The installation of these product help with both thermal and sound control of interior spaces and result in a much better experience for the user. Types of Sprayed Coatings
K-13 Spray on System
K-13 is a spray applied thermal and acoustical insulation that is typically used in exposed ceiling applications. This product provides thermal resistance of R-3.75 per inch and can be applied up to R-37.5 when it is mechanically supported. This can also provide up to NRC-1.05 when applied to various backings. K-13 comes in a verity of standard colors and can also be ordered in a verity of custom colors.
Ure-K 15 Minute Thermal Barrier
Due to the combustible nature of all plastic foam products, Building codes mandate that all Spray Foam be separated from interior living spaces by a minimum of 15-minute Thermal/Ignition barrier in case of fire. Ure-K provides this required protection as well as adding an additional R-4.5 to the system when applied at the standard thickness of 1.25”
SonaSpray “fc” Acoustic Attenuation Coating
This product is used primarily for its acoustical properties and refined finish. SonaSpray is generally applied between thicknesses of .5” to 1” and provides various NRC values between 0.65-0.85 depending on the backing it is sprayed onto. This product also comes in a verity of standard colors with an options for custom colors available.
Thermal Rating Requirements
Thermal rating requirements as generally set by the International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). Required ratings are governed by geographical location and which climate zone that area falls in. The United States is broken into 8 zones all with their own rating requirements.
