United Spray in Action
Spray Foam insulation is a relatively new product in the construction field and is fast becoming the standard for thermal envelopes. The material is mixed on the project site and undergoes a chemical reaction during its installation requiring proper heat and pressures. Spray Foam installation is a delicate process requiring the proper equipment and training, hiring an inexperienced applicator can lead to health and safety concerns from improperly installed products that do not cure.
United Spray continuously invests in the latest foam reactors and employee training to ensure we give our clients a first class, on-ratio product.
Types of projects
Closed Cell Spray Foam is a versatile material that can be applied in many different constructions assemblies including, walls, floors, roofs, under slab and much more. Due to its water repellant nature closed cell can be installed to the interior or exterior side of the structure.
- Exterior Walls
- Masonry Walls
- Under Slab
- Freezers/Coolers
- Foundations
- Parking Garages
- Roof Decks
Closed Cell Spray Foam Performance Overview
Thermal Performance
The Closed Cell Spray foam products that we install are all tested by ASTM to determine their performance characteristics. One of the most important of the ASTM tests that any foam undergoes is ASTM C 518 which determines its aged thermal resistance. All Closed Cell products have slightly different metrics, but generally provide an average of R-7/inch.
Moisture Control
One of the benefits that Closed Cell Spray Foam offers is that it can act as a vapor barrier when installed at a minimum thickness of 1.5". When applied as a continuous insulation to the outside of the structure, it can satisfy both air and vapor barrier requirements eliminating the need for other products.
Technical Data
ASTM Standards
- ASTM D 1662 Core Density
- ASTM C 518 Thermal Conductivity
- ASTM E 283 Air Leakage
- ASTM E 84 Surface Burning Characteristics
- ASTM E 93 Water Vapor Permeance
- ASTM D 2126 Dimensional Stability
- ASTM D 2856 Closed Cell Content
2009 IBC Section 2603.4 Thermal Barrier
Due to its combustible nature, it is required that all Closed Cell Polyurethane Foams be separated from the interior of a building by a thermal barrier.
Drywall generally functions as this barrier however in cases when foam remains exposed an Intumescent Coating must be installed
